Matt Kolo is a Photographer and Cinematographer based in Los Angeles and working everywhere.
Local LA artist born in Burbank began his career studying music as a jazz performer. Attending Hamilton Music Academy Matt won 3 Downbeat Music Awards for live audio engineering as well as performing at some of Los Angeles premier stages such as Catalina Bar & Grill, The Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, The Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Geffen Playhouse with Jackson Browne. He attended California Institute of the Arts where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music Arts, Jazz Performance.
His creative aspirations transformed into photography as he began working as a Motion Capture Artist working for Activision on their hit game “Call Of Duty”, were he set up stages for film shoots to crunching data after the filming was completed. Matt moved onto work with James Cameron on the up and coming Avatar movies 2 and 3 where he continued with motion capture eventually managing the aquatic stage for Cameron. After all the mocap was done filming for Cameron he was called to be a lead animator for Disney/ Fox VFX Lab, working on various projects like Mouse Guard, Borderlands 3 and Call of the Wild.
Currently Matt is the Motion Capture Supervisor for the up and coming TV show “Obi Wan Kenobi”. Matt’s other show titles that he has worked while at ILM have been “ The Mandalorian Season 2” , “The Book of Boba Fett”
Matt is an avid sports enthusiast which helps inspire his photography. Traveling around the world surfing, scuba diving, skiing, hiking and climbing, Matt is passionate about creating authentic visuals that make you want to be there in the moment.
